Villisca Community School District Mission Statement

The mission of the Villisca Community School District is to provide a safe, nurturing and educational environment in which effective teachers and staff provide challenging curriculum through which each student can achieve his/her maximum potential while developing the ability to become lifelong learners and a productive member of society.

The Villisca community is supportive of the education system in a variety of ways and through a number of groups. An example is the number of community people who attend school events with no other reason but just to show support to the students. The number of local scholarships that have been established - 25 to date - are another example of Villiscans wanting to see that students reach their fullest potential. The Villisca Faith Community is supportive of Villisca students and school faculty and staff. The newly formed Villisca Alumni and Friends Association was formed with the specific purpose of supporting the school system and all its programs providing full educational opportunities for Villisca students.

Understanding the challenges of small schools in rural communities in providing a broad curriculum, the school board and the administration work to provide education opportunities beyond those classes available in Villisca, including Advanced Placement and Post Secondary Educational Opportunities (PSEO) online courses and ICN classes. The system also currently participates with Iowa Western Community College in their 5 in 4 Program where students take college courses, receiving credits for high school graduation and credit for college classes. Students are able to take courses in the building trades and nursing through a Southwestern Community College program.

The culture and arts curriculum and extra-curricular activities in the school system give students the opportunity to discover and develop talents that will enhance their adult lives. Unlike many urban schools, students are able to participate in as many of the activities as they choose - arts, music, sports, speech, drama, ....

Back to School

Villisca students are back in school. for more information about the school district, you can visit their website at www.villisca.k12.ia.us.

The daily bulletin is posted on the education page of the Villisca Review website. click here to go to that page.

As the Villisca students head back to school they need school supplies. For some families, buying these supplies can be a challenge. Those who would like to help those families can do it by contributing supplies to the Interchurch Food Pantry. Click here for the list of school supplies needed for each grade level. Remember, if you purchase the items online, start at igive.com so a percentage of your purchases will come back to the Villisca Schools.

Students, parents and school supporters can make a difference in the finances of the Villisca School District:

  1. save boxtops4education labels, they are worth $0.10 each and- we can earn up to $20,000 a year;
  2. clip and save Tysons A+ labels - they are worth $0.24 each;
  3. start your online shopping at either igive.com or goodsearch.com and the store you shop at will give a percentage of your order to your designated charity - there are over 700 stores you can shop at including some of your favorites. The "stores" include office supply stores as well as airlines and motels.
  4. start your Internet searches at either isearchigive.com or goodsearch.com. They will pay your charity between one cent for each search. This is free money. It can make a difference for the Villisca Community Schools.

The boxtops4education and the Tyson A+ programs bring money into our community? Clip and save both types of labels. Throwing away a label is like throwing a dime in the wastebasket. Thanks to everyone who are already saving boxtops labels. You can send them or drop them off at Enarson Elementary at 219 Central Avenue,, Villisca, IA 50864 or at the high school.

Work on the track at the football field was done on Sunday, September 22 to prepare the track for some renovation. Thanks to the volunteers who gave up their Sunday morning and those who offered their machinery to get the job done.

Sunday morning residents and business owners in the Villisca School District gathered at the football field to break-up, remove and haul off the debris of the old cinder track around the field. According to Principal Johnson, the next step is to complete tile work so the inside curb can be poured. The track will then be covered with 2’ of ag lime
